BFS90 Community Series: The Line Up – A Men’s Mental Health Event

Bringing Brotherhood, Connection & Conversation to the Barbershop

Benevolent Family Services recently hosted another impactful event in our BFS90 Series—our quarterly initiative dedicated to giving back to the community. This quarter, we focused on uplifting the men in our community with “The Line Up – A Men’s Mental Health Event.”

The event took place at RavNall Cuts in Newport News, a barbershop known for its welcoming atmosphere and skilled professionals. We’re deeply grateful to RavNall Cuts for not only opening their doors on their only day off, but for offering their exceptional talent and hospitality to help make this event possible.

Real Conversations, Fresh Cuts & Community Connection

As the clippers buzzed and music played in the background, meaningful conversations began to flow. Men from across Hampton Roads gathered to share experiences, laugh together, and open up about life’s challenges and victories.

Between games of pool on the shop’s billiards table and enjoying delicious food provided by BFS, attendees received free haircuts, access to mental health resources, and most importantly, a sense of brotherhood and belonging.

By the end of the evening, participants left with more than just a fresh lineup—they walked away with confidence, support, and tools to face life with resilience.

Why Men’s Mental Health Matters

Far too often, men’s mental health is overlooked due to societal norms that promote strength and silence over vulnerability and openness. But the truth is—asking for help is a sign of strength.

At Benevolent Family Services, we’re committed to challenging these stigmas and creating spaces where men feel seen, heard, and supported. Events like The Line Up remind us that connection and conversation can be powerful steps toward healing.

Our Continuum of Care

At BFS, we provide a comprehensive continuum of care for adults on their journey toward mental wellness and recovery. Our services are flexible and personalized, including:

  • Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP)

  • Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)

  • Mental Health Skill Building

  • Community Stabilization

  • Intensive In-Home: For Adolescence and Children 8+

Whether someone is just beginning their journey or continuing their progress, BFS is here to help every step of the way.
