Building Bridges: BFS90 at Aqueduct Apartments

On a warm afternoon in Newport News, the Benevolent Family Services team arrived at Aqueduct Apartments, arms full of household supplies, warm smiles, and a shared mission—to meet people where they are and bring hope directly into the community.

This was our latest #BFS90 Community Giveback event, and the energy was undeniable. Children peeked curiously from balconies, families gathered to see what was happening, and one by one, residents came forward—not just to pick up essentials, but to connect.

At every table, our team shared more than supplies. We had conversations about mental health, recovery, and resourcesthat too often feel out of reach. We talked about how support doesn’t have to mean stepping away from your life—it can mean staying in your community while getting the care you need.

As one mother told us while picking up items for her family, “It makes a difference knowing someone cares enough to come here. We don’t always feel seen.”

That’s what BFS90 is all about—showing up, seeing people, and being a bridge to healing.

Through initiatives like this, we’re spreading awareness about the many services available at Benevolent Family Services, including:

  • Substance Abuse & Mental Health PHP/IOP Programs

  • Mental Health Skill Building

  • Intensive In-Home Services (Children & Adolescents)

  • Community Stabilization

This event at Aqueduct Apartments was just one stop in our journey. We’re committed to continuing these connections across Hampton Roads and Richmond, breaking down barriers, and letting every person know: help is here, and healing is possible.
