Gun Violence in Schools & Youth Mental Health



As we look out into the vastness of our world, we are witnessing more each day devastation that has brought millions of families to their knees.

Are our children safe in schools? Are we safe in schools? Gun violence in schools across the nation is such a tragic event. This tragedy from shootings can harm student’s mental health that will lead to vicarious trauma. Students should never be afraid or embarrassed to talk to any adults, a mental health professional, or someone they trust about their feelings. Working together in one’s community to stop gun violence is a start. Formulating school drills for keeping our children safe from gun shootings can be a start. · Teach each child to remind calm/ do breathing techniques · Know the safety exits · Silent phones if hiding in a designated area · Talk to an adult or parent when feeling sad or agitated. · Never bully anyone in school/on social media The more you talk to your children about their days at school and with peers, the more they will open up to you.
